Following article explains the how humidity affects the air conditioning system and solution to it.
Air conditioning systems cool the air by removing heat and moisture from the air. High humidity in the room can be contributed by many factors - number of people, plants, aquarium, human activity, indoor pools, fountains, etc..
Excessive humidity has excess moisture in the air. Excessive moisture carries more latent energy than low humid air. Hence, the air conditioning system has to work longer to cool the air and remove the moisture from the air.
Because the compressor runs longer to keep running the low temperature refrigerant in the cooling coil, the life of the compressor reduces due to wear and tear.
The extensive running of the compressor can lead to high electricity bills as well.
If homeowner is experiencing the thermostat temperature is not met by the system and experiencing the moist air in the room, foggy windows, or damp smell in some areas ,then it is safe to assume that there is an excess moisture in the air. And the system is not able to meet the cooling demand.
To tackle this problem :
1) install whole house dehumidifier that can be installed in the attic that is made by Aprilaire.
Or
2) To avoid inconvenience caused by attic installation, one can get away by standalone dehumidifiers which are made by Homelabs
